News
9 February, 2012 From the February 2012 Quarterly Update of the Graduate College (!):
Effective spring 2012, students are no longer required to bring a reading copy of their thesis or dissertation to the Graduate College for review. Students are responsible for making sure their theses or dissertations meet the formatting specifications outlined in the Thesis Instruction Packet or Dissertation Instruction Packet before submitting final copies. Students who would like a courtesy formatting check of their thesis or dissertation should contact the Graduate College at 325-3811 for an appointment.
14 December, 2011 METR 6950 Research for the Doctoral Dissertation Prior to the General Exam is open for enrollment, and should prevent conflicts with attempts to conduct research for your Disseration prior to scheduling your General Exam.
March 27, 2011: Annual Evaluation Form is due on 15 April 2011. Student and Advisor fill out and sign, then submit to mailbox of Brian Fiedler.
December 3, 2010: If a student want to be classified as a Fall graduate, the final copy of the dissertation/thesis needs to be brought to the library by Dec. 17. However, students have 60 days after the defense date to make corrections and deposit the final copy. If the Dec. 17 deadline is missed, the student will be classified as a Spring 2011 graduate. If the final copy is deposited before spring classes start (Jan. 18), you can successfully petition to avoid registering for 2 more hours of thesis research. After that, you would have to register one more time. (Fred Carr passed this to me).
April 21, 2010: All graduate students in SoM are encouraged to participate in this survey: http://assess.ou.edu/index
March 4, 2010: The Faculty of the School of Meteorology has instituted a new Ph. D. General Exam Policy.
Important Dates
Admission to Candidacy Deadline for MS students. MS students wishing to graduate in Fall 2012 must go through the ritual of Admission to Candidacy, which begins by submitting your filled-out Program of Graduate Work (SoM) (a.k.a. Admission to Candidacy Form) to the Graduate College by October 3, 2011. If you are an MSPM student, then submit your filled-out Program of Graduate Work (MSPM). You will need to include courses on the form that you expect to enroll in and expect to pass, as well as courses that you did enroll in and did pass. That may seem a bit weird, but that is the way the system works. You will need to obtain the signature of your Graduate Liaison, me, Brian Fiedler. You may leave your completed form in my SoM mailbox, and I will return it to yours, with a signature, if there are no issues. You may then "file" your form with the Graduate College, either by delivering it to their office, or you can use campus mail with: Department=Graduate College, Address=Robertson Hall, Attention=Rodgers. Please make a photocopy for Celia before you send off your form.

Graduate faculty appointments. Check the status of graduate faculty members that you are nominating to serve on your MS or PhD committee. Here is what the SM, M0, M1, M2 and M3 mean. What about the SMM? That is for Special Member Meteorology, which should be indicated for all SoM Adjunct/Affiliate Faculty, and allows such members to chair an MS Thesis committee and serve on a PhD committee.
